Health, hygiene, and nutrition impact everything all the time.

It is easy to forget how bad the conditions were at Vusumzi Primary School when we first arrived, but then we look at some old photos and get a sharp reminder of the truth. Yes, this photo is what the school kitchen used to look like and had looked like for years: torn-up floors, barely functioning gas supply, few cooking tools, pots, and pans, few utensils for the students, and NO hot water. That was forever changed in 2018, when we finished the kitchen renovation that the Department of Education has started but never completed: new cabinetry, running hot and cold water, a new refrigerator, a new freezer, plenty of shelving, plates and spoons for all 750 learns, tons of new pots & pans, and so on. Finally, the children and the chefs have the space they so richly deserve.
