Classrooms should reflect the dignity of education and the worthiness of each child.
We have renovated roughly 50 classrooms in South Africa because we believe that when educators and students walk into a space that is worthy of them and the activities inside, it changes mindsets and behaviors. A classroom should reflect the dignity of education and send the message that teachers, students, and education matter. In other words, our classroom renovations honor our pursuit of justice, civility, and hope.
With infrastructure projects, we typically work from the top down, starting with security measures and then replacing, repairing, or installing roofs, insulation, ceilings, electricity, walls. blackboards, floors, desks, chairs, educational materials for the walls, and much more. We also fund the kinds of classroom renovations that are not physical, such as professional development, field-trips, and targeted workshops in art, coding, mathematics, and reading.
