Thanks to the generosity of Karen and Wayne Barnes (pictured) and those named on the Wall of Honor, we funded the construction of a library as part of our Vusumzi Primary School Academic Centre project, which also houses a science lab, dance & music space, arts studio, and open-air meeting space.

Over the years, the library has been used to conduct reading groups, intervene on behalf of advanced and struggling readers, slowly populate the shelves with additional books and have them come alive both here and in the arts studio, share audio versions, do research, and take exams, all in collaboration with the School Library Committee, which connects educators and students with this wonderful space. The space has also been utilized during volunteer trips to explore poetry, write penpal letters, and use books to practice breathing methods and coping mechanisms. We are thrilled to have opened up this boundless world to Vusumzi Primary School students, because libraries are beacons of creativity, stories, and expanding worldviews.
